Chablis 2022 by Neal Martin

2022 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru | 89-91
The 2022 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru, matured in stainless steel for 15 to 18 months, has quite a primal bouquet: tinned peach, grapefruit and touches of wetstone, cohere in the glass and gain complexity. The palate is well-balanced with a fine, edgy entry thanks to the line of acidity. Taut, focused and nicely composed with a slight bitterness towards the brisk and lively finish.

2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru | 90-92
The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a pretty, well-defined bouquet with cooking apple, Conference pear and light earthy scents. The palate seems to have some CO2 and feels quite primal, but I think this will sort itself out with bottleage. Moderate length with fine acidity. Tuck this away for a couple of years.

2022 Chablis Les Vaillons 1er Cru | 86-88
The 2022 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has a slightly musky, light apple blossom bouquet cohering nicely in the glass. The palate is quite effervescent with a bit of gas and good acidity but rather one-dimensional on the tropical-tinged finish. This feels as if the warm summer got to it.

2022 Chablis Tête d’Or | 88-90
The 2022 Chablis Tête d’Or sees around 20% of the cuvée aged in French oak. The perfumed, quite floral bouquet of pressed white flowers infuses the Granny Smith aromas. The palate is a bit gassy on the entry, but there’s plenty of energy here with Golden Delicious and dried mango notes. It just fades a bit towards the finish, but this is a lot of fun.
